BBA, a Canadian consulting engineering company active in the energy, mining and metals sectors, has completed the project design for Canada-based Consolidated Thompson Iron Ore Mines Ltd's (CLM) Bloom Lake project in Northern Quebec.

A press release by BBA said that the company had been selected by CLM in 2006 to design the iron ore mine at Bloom Lake, and chose an Intergraph SmartPlant 3D design solution to execute the project.

BBA said that it chose SmartPlant 3D as software because it is well-suited for the specific challenges related to metals and mining projects, such as large and complex equipment and very mining-oriented specifications for components.

CLM is currently developing the Bloom Lake iron ore deposit, which is expected to have an initial production rate of 8 million mt per year.
