Chinese steel producer Baosteel's Special Steel Branch (BSSB) has ordered a Steckel mill for rolling stainless steel and high-quality alloyed steel from German plantmaker SMS Demag.

BSSB will use this mill to produce steel strips and plates up to 1,300 mm wide, and of various stainless steel grades, including special grades such as high-temperature resistant alloys, nickel-based and titanium alloys.

The mill's capacity will be 282,000 mt per year, of which 110,000 mt will consist of hot rolled coils. It is scheduled to come on stream in Shanghai at the end of 2009.
