Leading Chinese steelmaker Baosteel has been granted API SPEC 2H, 2Y and 2W certifications by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for its heavy steel plates for application in offshore platforms. Baosteel is the only steel enterprise in China to have obtained the certifications in question, and has thus gained the upper hand in the domestic market for the said heavy plates.
With more and more emphasis being placed by China in recent year on the development of its marine resources, the market for steel used in offshore applications is considered to have a bright future.
