Fabio Scoccimarro, councilor for the environment and energy of the northern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, has announced that Italian steelmarker Acciaierie Arvedi has submitted the requested documentation communicating that the procedures for shutting down the hot area of its Trieste-based Ferriera di Servola plant will begin by the end of February.
"The offices will evaluate the documentation and next week I will convene a press conference for transparency to explain what is going to happen and any inconveniences that could lead to the shutdown of various plants", continued the councilor.
"The company makes use of experts who already shut down the Piombino coking plant in 2014, while in Trieste this has not happened for over 20 years. This is the further element that is added to the exchange of letters that I sent to Giovanni Arvedi [the owner of Acciaierie Arvedi] in August, and it will bring a finally eco-sustainable industry to Servola", said Scoccimarro. He concluded by saying, "The energies of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region will focus on controlling this phase and, obviously, on protecting the employment level with the contribution of all the entities involved."
