ArcelorMittal Mexico has suspended activities at its mines, steel factories, rolling mills and distribution and service centers throughout Mexico through May 5, following instructions of the Federal Government to pursue actions to prevent the propagation of the swine flu (also known as the H1N1 Virus), according to Mexican steel association CANACERO. The company's five-day suspension of activities began Friday, May 1.
ArcelorMittal said it recognizes the leadership shown by the federal, state and municipal governments to contain the threat of an epidemic and has taken all possible preventive measures against this health threat.
Like most of the country's businesses except those in areas where infections continue to rise, ArcelorMittal Mexico will resume normal business activities as of Wednesday, May 6. The latest indications are that new infections in Mexico are waning.
