Italian steel producer ArcelorMittal has stated that, thanks to a new decree law adopted by the Italian government, it will continue operations at its Taranto plant starting from September 6, while continuing to monitor legal, regulatory and operational developments concerning the plant.

The company stated, “This new decree law amends the so-called Crescita decree law which had removed legal protection pending the implementation of the environmental plan for the Taranto plant.” After its publication on September 4, the decree law came into immediate force, though it will need to be ratified permanently by the Italian parliament within 60 days.
