In March this year and probably in the following months, ArcelorMittal Galati, Romania-based subsidiary of the world's largest integrated metals and mining company ArcelorMittal, will send home about 700 workers from its heavy plate and cold rolling mills to adjust productivity, the local media have reported citing ArcelorMittal Galati general manager Thierry Le Gal.
"The problems today are connected with the heavy plate and cold rolling mills. In March, we will have some leave taken earlier. If necessary, we will also have technical unemployment in the following months," Mr. Le Gal said.
The general manager said also that in the current year ArcelorMittal Galati will not apply any scheme of voluntary leave, and that the number of around 9,500 employees will be preserved even if ArcelorMittal's western steelmaking facilities are producing double the output with only a third of Galati's workers.
