The Arab Steel Summit 2009, which concluded its two-day run at the Rotana Beach Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, April 14, was a resounding success for the region's industrial sector, according to UAE state-owned steelmaker Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) which sponsored the event in coordination with the Arab Iron and Steel Union.
Speaking at the summit, Ahmad Salem Al Dhaheri, assistant vice president for projects at ESI, highlighted the achievements of ESI and stated that the producer would continue to implement its major expansion plans. "Our expansion has so far raised ESI's share in the domestic market to approximately 35 percent and is expected to increase the share further after the completion of phase two of ESI's integrated steel plant," Mr. Al Dhaheri said.
Mr Al Dhaheri continued his presentation stating, "At present, ESI has around 30 percent of the UAE rebar market. With our phase one expansion, ESI's production of reinforced bar will reach 1.9 million mt per year by the end of 2009."
The Emirates Steel assistant vice president stressed that the company is committed to environmental issues and takes every step to ensure the protection of the natural environment during its expansion projects, with efforts focused on reducing carbon dioxide and other emissions.
