Australian miner Aquila Resources Limited has announced an upgraded resource statement for the Eagle Downs hard coking coal project located in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, in which the company has a 50 percent interest.

According to an Aquila Resources statement, the total resource level has increased to 948 million mt from the previously reported 894 million mt, while measured resource level has increased to 577 million mt from 339 million mt representing a 70 percent upgrade in resource classification. Increase in measured and indicated resources in total to 790 million mt from 518 million mt represents a 52 percent upgrade in resource classification.

The feasibility study for the project proposes an underground longwall mine, producing initially up to 4.6 million mt per annum and then up to 8 million mt per annum of hard coking coal when the second longwall is installed.
