Anglo American said a Minas Gerais state mining chamber, known as CMI, has granted the iron ore producer two licenses for its Minas-Rio iron ore project in Brazil.
The state technical chamber of mining activities, CMI, has granted Anglo American both a preliminary (LP) and an installing (LI) license for the project. The licenses will allow the Minas-Rio project to commence expansion works on the BRL 1 billion project, so it can reach the proposed 26.5 million mt annual capacity.
Anglo American expects to hire 700 people at the site as works reach their peak. As phase 3 is completed, the company plans to hire another 100 workers.
Works to prepare the area and its infrastructure, including local accesses, will start immediately, Anglo said. Next, it will open a pit and work on the dam that will receive the product’s waste.
The Minas-Rio iron ore project comprises an open pit mine, a beneficiation plant producing high-grade pellet feed, and a 529kmlong (328milelong) pellet feed-transporting pipeline connecting different cities in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
