Alphasteel expands its steelmaking capacity

UK steel producer Alphasteel which was purchased by Geneva based Satico group, is planning to expand its steelmaking capacity. The company aims to increase its annual capacity to 2.4 million tons from current capacity of around 1.5 million tons by installing a new electric arc furnace (EAF) to feed its downstream mills. The EAF is scheduled to operate by mid 2004. Alphasteel also expressed that the new melt shop's installation will increase the supplies of rebar, wire rod and hot rolled sheet to the UK and export markets. The mill also plans to install a galvanizing and a cold rolling plant.
