Canadian steelmaker Algoma Steel Inc. announced on Wednesday, August 1, that it expects the shutdown at its No. 7 blast furnace to take longer than originally planned.

A press release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario-based flat rolled producer said that current projections are for a mid-August start-up date, an extension of approximately twelve days beyond original projections.

The company says that the shutdown and quenching of the furnace took longer than expected and that the scope of the repair work was expanded upon inspection of the furnace interior.
