Accident at Fortescue mine: One miner fatally injured

Australian iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) has announced that a contract worker of contractor Ausdrill Mining Services (AMS) was fatally injured on the morning of December 24 at an on-site workshop at its Cloudbreak mine site in Pilbara, Western Australia.

The incident occurred at approximately 10.15 a.m. WST during a routine maintenance procedure at the AMS workshop, a Fortescue release said.

AMS has suspended operations at the site of the incident while AMS, Fortescue and regulatory authorities, including the Mines Department, conduct their investigations into the incident.

Fortescue management has also suspended its mining and processing operations at Cloudbreak to ensure the ongoing safety of its employees and as a mark of respect.
