US OCTG market activity remains stable

Multiple sources close to SteelOrbis have said that overall activity within the US import J55 ERW OCTG casing market continues to remain stable.

“Pipe is still moving,” a source said. “The worries about the ramifications of the 232 investigation seem to have come and gone, especially since it’s looking like the Trump administration seems to be shelving that for an indefinite period of time.”

Another source said that in light of the announcement, he’s seen a “mad rush” of inquiries.

Trader sources continue to confirm that the most recently heard pricing for US import J55 ERW OCTG casing from Korea in the US domestic market are trending at $42.50-$44.00 cwt. ($937-$970/mt or $850-$880/nt), DDP loaded truck in US Gulf coast ports, while prices for US import J55 ERW OCTG casing from Taiwan in the US domestic market is still trending $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) below Korean pricing.

One trader, however, said he’s received “slightly better” offer pricing from Taiwanese mills.
