US HSS prices still trending upward

US domestic hollow structural sections (HSS) tubing prices have continued to firm since our last report a week ago; today, the most commonly heard spot price transaction range has widened by $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) on the top end, which brings the new average spot market price transaction range to approximately $43-$45 cwt. ($948-$992/mt or $860-$900/nt), ex-Midwest mill.  Two weeks ago, the most commonly spot market price for US HSS was $43 cwt. ($948/mt or $860/nt), ex-Midwest mill.

The uptick is directly attributed to continued firming that has been seen within the US domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) market.

Prices are expected to remain mostly stable for the next two weeks due to the year-end holiday season.
