As expected, US domestic scrap prices in most regions of the US trended down by approximately $10/lt for June buys. Prices for mixed HMS I/II out of the Chicago area are now being seen in the approximate range of $350-$370/lt while HMS I/II in the Indianapolis region are trending at $356-$362/lt.
Looking to Pittsburgh/Cleveland , that area has settled down across the board, bringing current prices to approximately $360-$370/lt for HMS I/II, $400-$410 for shredded scrap and $420-$430/lt for busheling.
In terms of Philadelphia, HMS I/II prices have held stable due to favorable demand, at $340-$350/lt, although prices for shredded scrap have settled down to $365-$370/lt. Busheling has settled down approximately $5/lt to $385-$390/lt.
Scrap flow into the yards has definitely increased, according to SteelOrbis sources, which is typical of this time of year. Transportation and logistics, however, continues to be a problem, with many yards having a hard time securing trucks to deliver scrap to US mills. Prices for the rest of the month are expected to trend relatively stable, although early indications point to additional softening is expected to take place forin July.
