Turkish ship scrap market moves to lower levels

Some Izmir-based Turkish mills have decreased their ship scrap purchase quotations by $5-10/mt today, March 19, while others have kept their prices stable. As a result, Turkish ship scrap purchase prices are now in the range of $405-420/mt, while most of the producers in question are now paying $410/mt for ship scrap. According to market sources, the scrap flow in the region has accelerated due to suppliers’ concerns that a further decrease will be seen in quotations.

Meanwhile, having increased by $30-35/mt at the beginning of the month, local ship scrap purchase prices have lost most of their gain in the recent decreases which have now totaled $25-40/mt, depending on the buyer.

In Turkey's Izmir region, the ship scrap purchase prices of local steelmakers are as follows:
