Aiming to secure its plants’ raw material needs, Tokyo Steel, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, has continued to increase its scrap purchase prices.
Accordingly, following the recent adjustments announcemed in the middle of the previous week, on October 1 the company has raised its scrap prices further. This time, Tokyo Steel has announced an increase in its prices for H2 scrap at all its plants. As a result of a JPY 1,000-2,000/mt ($9-18/mt) increase in prices, depending on the mill, the purchase prices for H2 now stand at JPY 49,000-52,000/mt ($441-468/mt), with the highest price valid for the Tahara and Okayama plants and the lowest for the Utsunomiya mill, according to the official information.
Likewise, the company has increased its scrap purchase prices for shindachi scrap. On balance, the new company’s shindachi scrap prices have been fixed at JPY 51,000-58,000/mt ($459-522/mt), with the high end of the range valid for the Tahara mill and the low end for the Utsunomiya mill.
All prices are delivered and effective from October 2.
