The major EAF-based steel producer in Japan, Tokyo Steel, has announced further drop of its local scrap purchasing prices – by another JPY 1,000-2,000/mt effective since July 16. With the negative impact of inflation and low demand conditions, scrap prices remain under pressure from mills in Japan.
After the reduction announced by Tokyo Steel today, on July 15, prices for H2 scrap have dropped to JPY 45,500-48,000/mt ($328-346/mt) depending on the mill, down by JPY 1,500-2,000/mt from the numbers shared by SteelOrbis on July 13. Dollar-based prices have decreased by $15-19/mt.
Tokyo Steel’s shindachi scrap prices have decreased to the range of JPY 48,000-50,500/mt ($346-364/mt), down by JPY 1,000-2,000/mt. Prices have indicated a $16-19/mt decrease since July 13.
