Given weaker sentiments in the Asian steel markets, Tokyo Steel, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, has continued to lower scrap purchase prices for its mills. This time, the company has announced a JPY 500/mt (around $4.4/mt) decrease for all its plants with no exception. Nevertheless, even after this revision, local customers continue to provide significant support for Japan-based scrap suppliers, as their bid prices are noticeably stronger than foreign customers can accept.
Accordingly, following the adjustments on November 10,Tokyo Steel’s new price levels for H2 scrap stand at JPY 51,500-56,500/mt ($455-499/mt), while for shindachi scrap they are at JPY 54,000-62,500/mt ($477-552/mt). The lower end is still valid for the Takamatsu plant, while the higher end is for the Tahara plant. All prices are delivered and effective from November 11.
