Tokyo Steel, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, has continued to revise its scrap purchase prices upwards, aiming to secure its plants with raw materials.
Specifically, the company has announced a JPY 500-1,000/mt ($4.5-9/mt) increase in its prices for H2 scrap at all its plants, except for Utsunomiya, indicating a third consecutive rise within the current month. As a result, the purchase prices for H2 have been settled at JPY 47,000-51,000/mt ($429-466/mt), with the highest price valid for the Okayama plant and the lowest for the Utsunomiya mill, according to the official information.
The company has increased its scrap purchase prices for shindachi scrap likewise. As a result of a JPY 500-1,000/mt ($4.5-9/mt) increase, the new local shindachi scrap prices have been fixed at JPY 49,000-56,000/mt ($447-511/mt), with the high end of the range valid for the Tahara mill and the low end for the Utsunomiya mill.
All prices are delivered and effective from September 22.
