As anticipated in last week’s forecast, local scrap prices in Poland this week confirmed their upward trend. The low scrap availability and the producers’ need to carry on with the production led to an increase in mills’ purchase prices by PLN 100-120/mt (€23.5-28/mt). According to sources, HMS I scrap average purchase price stands now at €312/mt delivered to mill.
SteelOrbis believes that this upward trend is both linked to the factors indicated, but also to the short-term reaction to Trump’s announcement of new import tariffs on Europe. Moreover, it comes as a consequence of a general upwards movement of all European markets and of increase in Turkish import scrap prices.
After mills’ negotiations for this month’s purchases, in fact, scrap markets all over Europe marked increases ranging from €5 to €25 depending on the mill and on the scrap grade.
As for export prices, on the other hand, prices were reported at €310-320/mt DAP, showing an increase of €15-20/mt week-on-week.
