Scrap prices have increased in Taiwan again as US suppliers’ asking prices have gained traction. The increase has been already fixed in deals. But South Korean customers have still been insisting on lower levels, which are not available in the market any more.

Offer prices for ex-US HMS I/II 80:20 in containers have increased by $5-10/mt to $240/mt CFR. Deals for about 10,000-20,000 mt have been done at $238/mt CFR this week, SteelOrbis has been informed, which is about $8/mt above the level in transactions last week.

South Korean steel producer Hyundai Steel has announced its bid for Japanese H2 scrap at JPY 22,000 mt ($203/mt) FOB, the same as before, but “it is hard to find such a price on the suppliers’ side at the moment,” an Asian source said. Offers prices from Japan have increased to JPY 23,000/mt ($212/mt) FOB.
