After increasing in late April, domestic scrap prices have mostly remained stable in the Italian market. This is due to the fact that supply, although low, has remained commensurate with demand. Only some slight price decreases have been recorded in the past two weeks, for the lower scrap grades. Several sources have reported that steelmakers have been complaining about the lack of finished product sales, while scrap traders have said that both scrap inflows and outflows are low. Sources among traders have also expressed the hope that the balance between supply and demand will last as long as possible. "If things were to change, the change would be for the worse in my opinion," said one source.
