Steel producers in Russia have been aiming to decrease their domestic scrap purchase prices, taking into account the plentiful supply in the market and decreasing finished steel prices. According to sources, scrap collection volumes in Russia were stable in August and some suppliers have excessive volumes in their stocks. In addition, mills are not lacking scrap stocks either and, in addition, they have been having trouble selling finished steel. “The mills’ aim to drop scrap prices is reasonable taking into account falling steel prices,” a producer said. Overall, mills are targeting $302-330/mt (RUB 22,000-24,000/mt) delivered for their scrap purchase prices in September.
