Local Turkish DKP grade scrap prices down $18-35/mt so far this week

Thursday, 28 January 2021 17:19:30 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Some Turkish mills have reduced their domestic scrap purchase prices today, January 28, as compared to the levels recorded yesterday, by TRY 20-200/mt or $2-26/mt, depending on the buyer and grade. The mills that announced price decreases are the ones that were behind the curve as the local Turkish scrap market has been moving down since the beginning of the current week due to the declines recorded in the deep sea scrap segment. The dollar-based quotations of the other mills which decided to keep their lira-based prices stable have mostly increased by $1/mt as the Turkish lira has appreciated slightly against the US dollar.

Since yesterday, the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has moved down from the range of TRY 2,900-3,525/mt to TRY 2,900-3,375/mt, while the dollar-based quotations have decreased from the range of $392-476/mt to $392-457/mt. With the new revisions observed today, the total decline recorded in the DKP grade scrap prices since the beginning of the current week is observed to be in the range of TRY 140-260/mt or $18-35/mt, depending on the buyer.
