Japan’s Tokyo Steel decreases scrap buying prices for first time in May

After consecutive downward scrap buying adjustments in April, Tokyo Steel made the first downward adjustment for the month of May today.

On April 22, SteelOrbis reported the Okayama site at JPY 30,500/mt ($272/mt), the Tahara site at JPY 31,700/mt ($283/mt), and the Utsunomiya site at JPY 30,000/mt ($268/mt), all prices delivered to customer. Tokyo Steel again decreased scrap buying prices around April 24 but specific prices were not available at time of publication.

Currently, prices at the Okayama site are reportedly at JPY 30,200/mt ($275/mt), the Tahara site at JPY 30,800/mt ($281/mt), and the Utsunomiya site at JPY 29,200/mt ($266/mt), all prices delivered to customer. Compared to April 22, scrap buying prices increased $3/mt at Okayama, decreased $2/mt at Tahara, and decreased $2/mt at Utsunomiya.
