Domestic scrap prices revised in Turkey on lira rate drop

Tuesday, 15 October 2019 14:04:34 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Turkish steel producers have mainly revised their local scrap purchasing prices upwards in the national currency, aiming to offset its weakening against the US dollar. Most mills revised the levels upwards by TRY 20-60/mt depending on the company and scrap grade, which resulted in $1-8/mt increase. Some companies added TRY 80-120/mt for certain scrap grades which was reflected in $12-19/mt rise on the US dollar basis. Another reason for the upward revision in the domestic market is the cautious price uptrend in the import segment, SteelOrbis understands. Those steel mills, who are taking their time to increase the domestic scrap prices for now, are expected to follow the majority, as their levels for the raw material in reality decreased by $1-2/mt
