With slightly renewed interest in US import rebar, sources report higher prices this week, but note that offer prices will not likely rise much further. US import rebar offers to Turkey are now in the range of $28.50-$29.50 cwt. ($628-$650/mt or $570-$590/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports, while offers from Mexico are now at $28.00-$29.00 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt) DDP Houston, both up $0.50 cwt. ($11/mt or $10/nt) week-on-week.

Sources also note the lack of availability of positions at the port for the rise in future arrival order prices. The latest US steel import data show 32,960 mt in rebar import permits for September (as of Sept. 29), compared to preliminary census totals of 89,352 mt in August. Of the September import permits, 7,633 mt is attributed to Turkey while 17,255 mt is attributed to Mexico.
