Inquiries within the US import rebar market have quieted this week, as many firms are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. However, once business resumes next week, sources tell SteelOrbis that they don’t expect a substantial increase in demand or purchasing activity. Buyers are reportedly looking ahead to 2019 arrivals, and aren’t interested in placing orders that would arrive before the end of the year. Still, sources say the annual Q1 “rebar flood” will be much more muted this time compared to recent years.

As for prices, import rebar offers in the US market from Italy and Spain are steady this week around $38.50-$39.50 cwt. ($849-$871/mt or $770-$790/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports, while most prices for currently available inventory at the ports from the same countries remain around $36.00-$37.00 cwt. ($794-$816/mt or $720-$740/nt) DDP loaded truck in the Gulf.
