SteelOrbis has been informed by market sources that price levels in the Turkish domestic market for 6-7 mm mesh quality wire rod are as follows:

Region

Price ($/mt)

Marmara

615-628

Thrace

608-620

Izmir

608-616

Iskenderun

590-600

The above prices, which are on actual weight basis, do not include VAT and are on ex-works basis. The offers may differ depending on buyers and order sizes.

According to market sources, wire rod prices in the local Turkish market have decreased by TRY 20/mt ($9/mt) compared to last week to the range of TRY 1,280-1,356/mt ($593-628/mt) ex-works, excluding VAT, while transaction activity is lively.

Market sources report that the focus of Turkish wire rod producers has turned towards the export markets and so occasionally supply tightness is observed in the local market, leading Turkish buyers to consider Chinese wire rod offers which are much cheaper than the current prices in the local Turkish market.

Chinese wire rod offers to Turkey for mesh quality wire rod are at $520-530/mt CFR, while drawing wire rod offers from China are at $530-540/mt CFR. Market sources state that there have been deals concluded in the price range in question and that Turkish wire rod buyers are willing to conclude more deals for Chinese wire rod. If purchases of Chinese materials continue in the coming weeks, Turkish wire rod producers will have to compete harder against Chinese offers, which will negatively impact their price levels.
