SteelOrbis has been informed by market players that billet prices in the Turkish domestic market are currently ranging at $520-525/mt ex-works, indicating a softening of $5/mt on the high end since last week. Billet prices in the local market have been revised downward following Turkey-based steelmaker Kardemir's billet price reduction of $14/mt yesterday, February 18. Kardemir's S235JR and MT III-A grade billet prices are standing at $507/mt +VAT ex-works and at $512/mt +VAT ex-works, while the mill has received orders for a total of 28,500 mt of billet so far.
Meanwhile, CIS billet offers for Turkey can be found at $500-510/mt CFR, though downward expectations for ex-CIS offers have impacted demand negatively.
On the other hand, Turkish billet export offers are standing at $510-515/mt FOB, declining by $10/mt since last week, while a Turkish steelmaker has sold billet to South America in this price range.
