Romania’s domestic long steel market continues to reflect weaker demand fundamentals, with rebar spot prices softening. According to market participants, this trend is largely driven by sluggish purchasing activity and persistent cash flow challenges. In contrast, the sole domestic rebar producer has maintained stable offer levels, and wire rod spot prices have also remained unchanged, supported by steady but slow demand and limited market volatility. Furthermore, market participants note that, with the overall price trend and outlook across the EU remaining slightly negative and with the summer holiday period approaching, the market is not expected to show any significant improvement or activity in the coming months.
“Demand is somewhat slower, and I believe the general price outlook in the EU is also slightly down, but prices in Romania are under more pressure. The reason for the pressure is that there is increased concern regarding the flow of cash, and so market players are more cautious about their actions,” a trader told SteelOrbis
Over the past week, Romanian traders have decreased their rebar prices to about €590-600/mt ex-warehouse, from €595-610/mt ex-warehouse last week.
Meanwhile, the sole domestic rebar producer has kept its prices unchanged week on week at €590-605/mt ex-works.
In the wire rod segment, domestic prices have remained stable, with most traders quoting at €580–595/mt ex-warehouse, in line with last week’s levels.
On the other hand, in the import segment, the majority of suppliers have quoted stable prices week on week, with no fresh deals announced. Ex-Bulgaria rebar offers have remained stable from last week at €610-630/mt CPT, while Greece's rebar and wire rod offers have remained at €605/mt CFR and €595/mt CFR, respectively. Similarly, Egypt's rebar and wire rod offer prices remain stable at €510-520/mt CPT and €535-545/mt CPT, respectively. In contrast, Turkish rebar offers to Romania based on a €1 = $1.14 exchange rate and freight costs of €25-30/mt have fallen by €10-15/mt to €500-520/mt CFR since last week.
