After the announcement from the EU regarding new safeguard measures, as well as the ongoing uncertainty related to CBAM, rumors had circulated in the market that prices could reach higher levels. However, considering the continuing slow demand in the local market, the upward trend has failed to materialize. According to market participants, the current outlook does not support any price increases, buyers are not ready to accept higher levels, and stock volumes remain high. Meanwhile, although prices have generally stayed the same as last week, a few traders have attempted to offer at higher levels, but without success.
As a result, offers from Romania’s sole rebar producer have remained at €550-555/mt ex-works, unchanged from the previous week. Spot traders have also kept their offers stable, at €555-565/mt ex-warehouse, in line with earlier levels. A few traders tried quoting slightly higher prices at around €575-580/mt ex-warehouse, but these levels could not be sustained due to limited buyer interest.
In the wire rod segment, a similar pattern of stability has been observed over the past week. Traders continue to quote €560-570/mt ex-warehouse, reflecting a balanced but subdued market.
On the import side, no new deals have been reported, and most prices have remained stable. However, non-EU suppliers, particularly from Turkey, have shown some upward movement. Reports indicate that Turkish mills, supported by a more optimistic scrap market, have increased their offers to €485-495/mt CFR, compared to last week’s €480-495/mt CFR. These figures are based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.17 and estimated freight costs of €15-20/mt.
Meanwhile, Egyptian suppliers, another major non-EU source, have decided to keep offers stable at €485-490/mt CFR for rebar and €495-500/mt CFR for wire rod, both for November shipment.
Among EU suppliers, a similar stable trend continues to be observed. Bulgarian mills have maintained their rebar offers at €570-580/mt CPT for October-November shipments, while Moldovan producers have also kept rebar prices steady, at €570/mt CPT for the same period. Moreover, Greek suppliers are currently offering rebar at €570-575/mt CFR and wire rod at €565-570/mt CFR to the Romanian market.
