This week, the Romanian longs steel market remained stable as weak local demand and ongoing liquidity issues continued to limit trading activity. Both the country’s sole rebar producer and spot traders kept their prices unchanged from the previous week, reflecting a cautious stance amid slow market conditions. Market participants noted that inventories remain high, further dampening buying interest and reducing the likelihood of any short-term recovery. Some traders have been reported to offer small discounts to serious buyers in an effort to encourage limited transactions. On the import side, no major deals have been reported with non-EU suppliers, while moderate interest has been seen in offers from nearby EU countries, mainly for small sized lots intended for quick delivery.
In the domestic market, Romania’s sole rebar producer kept offers unchanged at €550-555/mt ex-works, maintaining stability for a second consecutive week. Spot traders followed a similar trend, keeping prices at €555-565/mt ex-warehouse, aligned with previous levels. However, a few market participants have reportedly been offering slight discounts around €540-545/mt ex-warehouse to attract serious buyers and encourage limited sales amid weak liquidity.
The wire rod segment followed a similar pattern of price stability, with offers remaining in the range of €560-570/mt ex-warehouse, reflecting the broader inactivity.
On the import side, no deals have been reported from non-EU suppliers, while interest in short-term deliveries from neighboring EU countries increased slightly as some Romanian buyers sought to replenish inventories with small or medium-sized lots. Offers from Bulgarian suppliers were reported stable at €570-580/mt CPT, while Moldovan producers continued to quote around €550/mt CPT, both for November shipment. Likewise, Greek suppliers maintained rebar offers at €570-575/mt CFR and wire rod at €565-570/mt CFR, also for November deliveries.
In the non-EU import market, Turkish mills made slight downward adjustments to rebar offers by around €5/mt, now at €480-495/mt CFR, based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.16 and estimated freight costs of €15-20/mt. Meanwhile, Egyptian exporters kept their quotations unchanged, offering €485-490/mt CFR for rebar and €495-500/mt CFR for wire rod, both for November shipment.
