The Romanian long steel market has remained largely stable this week, with only marginal discounts observed in some cases. Market activity continues to be limited, as the majority of companies have entered the holiday period typical for this time of year. As a result, the overall market outlook remains unchanged from the previous week. The sole domestic rebar producer, along with local traders, has opted to maintain current price levels, citing stagnant demand. Similarly, the import market has witnessed minimal activity, with most offers holding steady. Nevertheless, a gradual increase in activity is anticipated toward the end of the month as the market prepares for a potential recovery in September.
Consequently, the sole domestic rebar producer has kept its offers unchanged for another week, maintaining a price range of €585-590/mt ex-works. Retail market prices across Romania have also remained stable, continuing to be reported within the range of €580-595/mt ex-warehouse.
A comparable trend is evident in the wire rod segment, where most suppliers are offering material at stable prices of €580–590/mt ex-warehouse.
In the import market, similar quiet conditions have been observed, with limited activity as the European market enters the holiday period. According to sources, current offers from Greece remain stable, with rebar quoted at €585-590/mt CFR and wire rod at €580-585/mt CFR for August-September shipments. A slight price drop has been noted from Bulgarian suppliers, with offers now at €600-610/mt CPT, down from €605-615/mt CPT last week for the same shipment period. Suppliers outside the EU have shown mixed trends for August-September shipments. While Egypt has maintained stable pricing, with rebar at €485-490/mt CFR and wire rod at €500-505/mt CFR, Turkish rebar offers have declined slightly over the past week. Turkish material is now quoted at €475-490/mt CFR, compared to €485-500/mt CFR previously. These prices are based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.17 and estimated freight costs of €15-20/mt.
