Mexican wire rod prices drop but outlook remains strong

The price of domestic Mexican wire rod fell US$25/mt exmill during the last month, to reach $698/mt ex-mill.

However, the outlook for demand is still up, with Mexico’s construction sector expected to benefit from new housing policies this year. In 2014, the sector had to contend with mostly external factors such as the volatility of the US dollar, falling oil prices, and especially the entry of foreign firms for major construction projects.

Sources say that because 2015 is an election year, budgets for construction should have greater flow.
