The Philippines has been heard actively purchasing billet from various countries of origin including Vietnam, Taiwan and Mexico. According to sources, billet from Mexico has been purchased through the past week at $515-522/mt CFR Philippines. This price is $5-12/mt higher than a deal in the week ended August 11 that was reportedly transacted at $510/mt CFR to Southeast Asia. A source noted that the sale earlier in August was most likely also traded to a re-roller in the Philippines.
