Italian rebar producers try to increase their domestic offers

In the past few weeks, Italian rebar producers have been selling material in the domestic market at prices in the range of €350-360/mt ($392-403/mt) ex-works. Nevertheless, they are now trying to increase their domestic rebar prices to at least €380/mt ($426/mt) ex-works. It is uncertain if they will succeed, because at present they are still delivering the material they have sold at the previous prices. Meanwhile, demand is still very weak in the end-user market.

Concerning the export market, sources among Italian rebar producers have told SteelOrbis that Italian producers have had enough of waiting for the release of import licenses in Algeria, and so lately they have been turning to alternative markets such as Canada, Latin America, Central Africa and Turkey, to which they have sold decent volumes. According to sources, at least one Italian producer has closed its sales for June and July, and is now unwilling to accept to sell rebar at lower than €390/mt ($437/mt) FOB.
