Chinese domestic steel section prices have edged up slightly upward during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed an upward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,650/mt ($514/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,670/mt ($517/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,750/mt ($528/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Chinese steel section prices followed a stable trend during the Chinese New Year holiday period and have edged up slightly after the holiday, supported by rises in upstream billet prices. Overall trading activity has been at low levels since most downstream buyers are not back in the market yet. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices will move sideways or up slightly, supported by higher billet prices and improving demand.
