Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed a downward trend during the past week.

As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have risen slightly in the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,940/mt ($765/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 4,960/mt ($768/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,040/mt ($780/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.

Overall trading activity in the Chinese domestic steel section market has been weak due to the off-season and demand side has continued to slacken, which has been the main factor causing steel section prices to move down. Supply volumes have declined lately as some mills chose to decrease their production volumes. As for the week ahead, considering the weakness of the demand side, it is believed that steel section prices in China may fluctuate on a downward trend.
