Chinese domestic steel section prices have shown a fluctuation trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a slightly upward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,050/mt ($781/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,070/mt ($784/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,150/mt ($796/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
In the given period, overall trading activity in the local Chinese steel section market has remained weak due to the off-season and hot weather. Upstream billet prices have increased slightly but most of the steel section producers have held their prices stable due to the weak demand. Supply volume has remained low because of the cuts in production volume. As for the week ahead, it is believed that domestic steel section prices in China may increase slighlty, considering that demand may recover in September.
