Prices for US import hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil from China and India may have held mostly neutral since our last report a week ago, although offshore producers of 0.019x41.5625 Gr80/AZ55 Galvalume have started to take a “gloves off” approach to selling into the US market.
Offshore mills continue to maintain the lion’s share of the US domestic market, according to sources, and they’re “fighting tooth and nail” to maintain it. Trader sources, though, say the biggest challenge comes down to high inventory levels. “The market is oversupplied right now,” according to a Texas-based source, who notes there are “still quite a few Brazilian tons hanging out in Houston that are still without a home.”
But now that US prices seem to be showing signs of stabilization, the ongoing revision in offshore offer prices could stall sooner than later.
