The most commonly heard spot price transaction range for US domestic hot dipped galvanized and Galvalume coil may be stable, week-over-week, although some sources close to SteelOrbis are reporting that flat rolled steel mills have been open to negotiating price for volume buyers.
Deals up to $1.50 cwt. ($33/mt or $30/nt) below the average spot range have been reported, although it’s not believed the recent price flexibility is indicative of an impending downtrend. “The average consumer is still paying over $50 cwt. ($1102/mt or $1000/nt),” a source said.
Order activity and inquires continue to be steady, sources note, adding that they don’t believe that prices will fluctuate much for the rest of the summer. Lead times, which have previously been reported at 7 to 8 weeks, are also stable, although some customers have reported hearing that lead times out of select mills are as long as 12 weeks.
