Last week, most segments within the US domestic hot dipped galvanized (HDG) markets saw signs of a slow, downward pricing drift. This week, however, the market seems to have leveled off as both buyers and sellers are waiting for the proverbial dust to settle. Sources close to SteelOrbis point out that while the average spot price range for 0.012”x40.875” G30 has not moved, “there are more and more deals as sellers are increasingly flexible.” Low raw materials costs and the slow erosion of US hot rolled coil (HRC) prices continue to be the primary culprit.
In terms of HDG and Galvalume base pricing, that has held in the approximate range of $35.00-$37.00 cwt. ($772-$816/mt or $700-$740/nt), ex-Midwest mill, although an increasing number of transactions are taking place at the lower end of that range.
