Resistance from buyers in sluggish Italian domestic flat steel market

Following previous increases, during the past two weeks domestic producers’ flat rolled coil prices in the local Italian market have remained stable, trending sideways at €350/mt ($400/mt) for hot rolled coil (HRC), at €410/mt ($468/mt) for cold rolled coil (CRC) and at €410-420/mt ($468-479/mt) for hot dip galvanized (HDG), all ex-works.

In the meantime, service centers and distributors are facing strong resistance from their customers in terms of acceptance of higher prices, since demand is low and buyers are confused as they do not understand the reason for the most recent price increase given the weakness of demand.
