Taking imports and exports into consideration, the newly-added supply of crude steel to China's market in May totaled 47.4755 million mt, up 5.8951 million mt or 14.18 percent year on year. From January to May, the newly-added supply reached 217.9872 million mt, up 17.3781 million mt or 8.66 percent year on year.
In the month of May, China's exports of crude steel accounted for 2.91 percent of total national crude steel production; meanwhile, crude steel exports in the first five months of this year constituted 3.64 percent of total domestic production.
China's pig iron production in May totaled 45.4264 million mt, up 2.5889 million mt or six percent year on year. At the same time, total pig iron production in the January-May period reached 209.8747 million mt, up 8.3647 million mt or 4.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2008.
China's finished steel production for May totaled 57.2914 million mt, up 3.9379 million mt or 7.4 percent year on year. On the other hand, national finished steel production from January to May inclusive reached 245.2597 million mt, up 9.0804 million mt or 3.7 percent year on year.
The breakdown of China's finished steel production in May according to the various products is as follows:
China's coke output for May totaled 27.6743 million mt, down 1.6844 million mt or 5.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, national coke output for the January-May period reached 126.4135 million mt, down 10.0564 million mt or 7.4 percent year on year.
China's ferroalloy output totaled 1.8038 million mt in May, up 54,600 mt or 3.1 percent year on year. For the January-May period, on the other hand, national ferroalloy production reached 7.2786 million mt, down 354,500 mt or 4.6 percent year on year.
In May, China's iron ore output totaled 65.5564 million mt, down 11.2405 million mt or 14.6 percent compared with the same month last year. The January-May iron ore output reached 295.6396 million mt, down 18.903 million mt or six percent year on year.
