China’s steel production in April

China's crude steel production in April totaled 43.4126 million mt, down 1.7807 million mt or 3.9 percent year on year. Average daily production during the month reached 1.4471 million mt, down by 7,800 mt or 0.53 percent month on month. Meanwhile, crude steel production for the January-April period reached 170.6693 million mt, up 102,600 mt or 0.1 percent year on year.

Taking imports and exports into consideration, the newly-added supply of crude steel to China's market in April totaled 44.3037 million mt, up 3.0644 million mt or 7.43 percent year on year. From January to April, the newly-added supply reached 170.4498 million mt, up 11.7516 million mt or 7.41 percent year on year.

In the month of April, China's exports of crude steel accounted for 3.2 percent of total national crude steel production; meanwhile, crude steel exports in the first four months of this year constituted 3.84 percent of total domestic production.

China's pig iron production in April totaled 41.6308 million mt, up 157,800 mt or 0.4 percent year on year. At the same time, total pig iron production in the January-April period reached 163.7864 million mt, up 5.0484 million mt or 3.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2008.

China's finished steel production for April totaled 52.9145 million mt, up 1.3467 million mt or 2.6 percent year on year. On the other hand, national finished steel production from January to April inclusive reached 196.9806 million mt, up 5.2245 million mt or 2.7 percent year on year.

The breakdown of China's finished steel production in April according to the various products is as follows: 

China's coke output for April totaled 24.7365 million mt, down 4.0527 million mt or 14.1 percent year on year. Meanwhile, national coke output for the January-April period reached 98.4027 million mt, down 8.9002 million mt or 8.3 percent year on year.

China's ferroalloy output totaled 1.575 million mt in April, down 167,500 mt or 9.6 percent year on year. For the January-April period, on the other hand, national ferroalloy production reached 5.5132 million mt, down 437,500 mt or 7.4 percent year on year.

In April, China's iron ore output totaled 60.7883 million mt, down 12.0041 million mt or 16.5 percent compared with the same month last year. The January-April iron ore output reached 228.4159 million mt, down 8.2122 million mt or 3.5 percent year on year.
