Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal has announced that it intends to complete the reconstruction of its No. 1 sintering machine by 2010.
After the machine's reconstruction, Zaporizhstal plans to increase its agglomerate output by 158,000 mt per year. In 2008, Zaporizhstal produced 5.419 million mt of agglomerate. The company operates a total of six sintering machines.
The investments in the project amount to approximately UAH 113.7 million (about US$14.4 million), excluding VAT. The supplier of the equipment has not been disclosed.
Zaporizhstal specializes in the production of hot rolled steel products in carbon, alloy and stainless steel grades. The company is Ukraine's fourth-largest steel producer, selling approximately 42 percent of its production domestically and 58 percent to the Middle East, CIS countries, Asia and EU.
