Zambia restricts export of scrap metal

Zambia Ministry of Trade and Industry has recently announced that it determined to ban export of scrap metal effective as of November 30, 2004. The decision is taken following the consultations with the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, the Foundry Association of Zambia, the Scrap Metal Merchants Association of Zambia and various mines. Under the scope of the decree, export of scrap metal of any class is restricted as of November 30, 2004. The decision is stated to be taken to protect domestic foundry industry and to ensure availability of scrap metal in the local market.
